The Up and Up.
Artists generating real breakout signal before they hit mainstream charts.
How are these scored?
We pull daily activity from fifteen discovery-stage sources: Shazam, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Bandcamp Daily, Hype Machine, NACC college radio, Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Last.fm, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Deezer, and Spotify editorial playlists. Each source is weighted toward early fan behavior rather than mainstream popularity.
A high score means an artist is spiking across multiple independent platforms at the same time. One viral moment on a single platform won't do it -- we look for correlated signal across multiple sources.
Signed artists and those who already chart on Billboard or have large streaming audiences are excluded. This feed is strictly for who's next, not who's already there.
Velocity matters more than size. A 400% week-over-week jump from a small base scores higher than steady numbers from an established act. We're measuring acceleration, not altitude.
